Contemplative Coaching

Contemplative coaching embraces being in the present, making time to reflect about your thinking and emotions, bringing your consciousness and subconscious out through your voice. It is for leaders, managers or professionals who embrace a religious belief and or spiritual practices in their life. Or for those people who do not define themselves through religious or spiritual beliefs but believe in a higher power.

Contemplative coaching brings together Kate’s training as a coach with her training in inter-faith ministry and formal studies under the Carmelites and Jesuits. She obtained a Diploma in Spiritual Direction and completed a course in Supervision. She also draws on her life belonging to an inter-faith organization, a Julian ecumenical Christian meditation group, a Buddhist sitting grouping and she engages as a Catholic within her local Catholic parish and a Carmelite Friars community.

    • It encourages, going beyond an unconscious survival response to challenges in your life but holding yourself in compassion with the struggles which evoke anger and aggression

    • Such coaching goes beyond only using your rational mind

    • It is responsive rather than a reactive engagement in your life, drawing from recent research in neuroscience, psychology, spirituality and academic research on leadership.

In discussion with you it may be your own agenda you wish to focus on, or if the sessions are being funded by your employer it will include focus on this too – and to the future.

    • Drawing from contemporary knowledge of the brain in relation to how people’s emotions and thinking are constructed and regulated in the brain and from spiritual practices as to how to calm the body and promote well-being and a secure sense of your place in the world and life purpose

    • For some people it is a time to connect to the universe source which they may refer to as God or Spirit or another term.

    • It draws from the extensive work of how adult and adolescent personalities are formed - with reference to attachment theory and trauma.

  • As a coach Kate will appreciate and be able to mirror the language you use and ask your permission to bring in ideas and language that you have not used.

The coaching process may give you words, phrases or concepts that enable you to reframe your story or the challenges you face as a leader in business, education, family life or just life.

    • Understand your personality type through using the enneagram or an emotional intelligence psychometric test
